A website has the potential to achieve beautiful things. For businesses, they’re designed to provide relevant information to customers, and even convert those who are cautious about the product offered. While websites contribute immensely to a business, it could, in one way or another, become its bane. How so?

Once your readers establish that your website is mediocre or low quality, they’ll be turned off from your business. How can you create a quality website to create a professional appearance? Consider the following six (6) qualities of a high-quality website.

Proper Navigation and Sitemap

Content should be readily found. Your navigational menu should be distinct and separate from the content onsite. It should stand out. Customers should not learn how to use your website once they’re on it, that’s a given. A navigational menu should be well-structured, along with your sitemap, which underscores a list of all the menus or important pages onsite.

Clean and Clear Appearance

A business website should always bear a professional appeal. The website’s navigational menus should be transparent and visitors should be able to maneuver without hindrance onsite. A simple guideline to follow is to use your appropriate business colors (light and neutral), consistent typography, and a simple design. Your business logo or tagline should not be obscure.

Apple.com is a great example of this.

High Quality Content

Content varies. However, in most cases, you can identify a lackadaisical webmaster or someone who spends too little time creating content for their website.

Spelling and grammar is also a tell-tale sign of a high-quality website. A terribly written piece of content will quickly paint a bad image in your reader’s mind, while a well poised article will make you look professional and scholarly.

High Quality Images and Videos

“A picture tells a thousand words.” Readers readily digest the contents of a video and image, against reading an article a thousand words in length. To supplement, images and videos create and foster engagement with readers. Creating high quality graphics for your website is important; never underestimate the returns it could yield.

Internal and External Links

A high-quality website has a well put together internal and external link structure. Internal linking includes creating a relationship with each post on your blog through links – one article is linked to another and the list continues.

External links include linking to authoritative websites. An important factor to look out for is relevance. A quality website should only link to relevant and similar content.

Readability

Your readers should be able to go through your content quickly, unless it’s a very extensively written piece. In most cases, readers tend to scan subheadings of articles. Ensure to use headings, bulleted lists, and short paragraphs to guide the reader to what is relevant.

While there are many other factors contributing to the quality of a website, these are a few of the most important. Implement them on your next website design or give your website a face-lift to retain your readers.
