Create an iTunes Icon in Photoshop for iPhone: Final Preview
Tools and Resources
Photoshop Tools
Following Photoshop tool are used in this tutorial.
- Eraser Tool
- Brush Tool
- Rectangle Tool
- Elliptical Marquee Tool
- Rounded Rectangle Tool
Lets start to create our an iTunes Icon in Photoshop for iPhone and iPod Touch.
Step 1
Open Adobe Photoshop, and create a new Photoshop document. I am going to create a new document of 520 x 520 px with #ffffff color.
Step 2
First of all select the Rectangle Tool (U) of 150×150 size and draw a rectangle with black color as like in preview.
Step 3
Now select the Rounded Rectangle Tool set the radius 10px and draw a rectangle with white color and name it layer Icon Base.
After drawing the rounded rectangle and applying Gradient Overlay on icon base layer.
Step 4
Hold Command (Ctrl from Keyboard) and click on the thumbnail of icon base layer. This will select the icon.
Step 5
Create a new layer, with the icon base still selected. Fill in the selection with white. Go ahead and name this layer Star Burst because it is where we will be making the star burst effect.
Step 6
With the layer Star Burst selected, go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Apply the following settings:
Now hit Command Ctrl+D to deselect the star burst layer. Go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur and apply the following settings.
Step 7
Hold Command (Ctrl) and click on the thumbnail of star burst layer. This will select the burst you have. Now, hit Command+Shift+I to invert your selection.
Hit delete to remove the extra star burst as like in preview.
Lower the opacity to 35%. Your icon should now look like this:

Create a new layer. Name it Gloss. Select the Elliptical Tool, draw a circle on Star Burst layer as like in preview.
Down the opacity this layer to 35%.
Now delete the unneeded area from the Gloss layer.
When we delete the unneeded area from gloss layer then we have get this awesome result.
Step 9
Next, go ahead and grab your brush tool. Set the diameter to 75% and the hardness to 0%. Create a new layer titled Bottom Glow. With white as your foreground color, simply make one brush right at the bottom of the icon.
After Applying Brush Tool, we applying Gaussian Blur filter on Bottom Glow layer.
Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.
After applying Gaussian Blur filter, now down opacity to 50%. we have cool glow effect.
Step 10
Now we are done with the overall icon. Next, we just need to add in the ring and the Music icon. To start the ring, grab the elliptical marquee tool. Holding down the shift key, draw out a selection like this:

Create a new layer titled Ring. Fill in the selection you have with white.
Step 12
Next, go to the top menu bar and go to Select > Modify > Contract. Contract your selection by 5 pixels and hit delete from your keyboard.
Step 13
Now hit the Ctrl+D for the deselect the selection and applying the Bevel Emboss on this layer.
After applying bevel emboss we have awesome effect as like in preview.
Step 14
In this final step, download the any Music icon in png format, insert in Photoshop and applying drop shadow on music icon.
After applying the drop shadow on music icon. You can see the final result in final preview below.
