Okay, be ready to learn Photoshop CS5 icon in 5 minutes.
Step 1
Open Adobe Photoshop, and create a new Photoshop document. I am going to create a new document of 500 x 500 px with white background.
Step 2
Create a new layer. Rename this layer to “Icon Front” for easy identification. Let’s draw front of Photoshop CS5 icon.
- Select the Rectangle Tool. Make sure it is in “Shape Layers” mode. You can use any foreground color at this step, as in my case it is #000000 color. Don’t worry about this, we will handle it later.
- Draw a perfect square as shown in “Step 2 Preview”. You can hold “Shift Key” to accomplish this task easily.
Let’s apply the following Blending Options.
Gradient Overlay
- Blend Mode: Normal
- Opacity: 100%
- Gradient: #073366 (Location: 0%), #0861ba (Location: 100%)
- Style: Linear
- Angle: 90

Create a new layer above the “Icon Front” layer. Rename this layer to “Icon Side” for quick identification. Let’s draw side of Photoshop CS5 icon.
- Select the Rectangle Tool. Make sure it is in “Shape Layers” mode. You can use any foreground color at this step, as in my case it is #000000 color. Don’t worry about this, we will handle it later.
- Draw a side of Photoshop CS5 icon as shown in “Step 3 Preview”
You can zoom in/out for the perfect synchronization (bottom/top) of both layers as shown.

This is the step, where you need a little attention to make the sidebar perfect as show in “Step 4 Preview”.
- Enable the “Skew Transformation” by going Edit > Transform > Skew
- Click the “Top Left” selection of Skew, and drag upwards slightly (See Step 4 Preview).
- Click the “Bottom Left” selection of Skew, and drag upwards (See Step 4 Preview).

Apply the following Blending Options on “Icon Sidebar” layer.

- Drag the “Icon Top” layer to the bottom of “Icon Front” layer, See Step 7 Preview

It is time to write “Ps” to finalize our Photoshop CS5 Icon. Adobe uses a licensed font for his icons, so we will choose another font that will resemble their licensed font (Adobe Clean). Let’s do the following settings to write “Ps”.
- You can use any foreground color at this step, as in my case it is #ffffff color. Don’t worry about this, we will handle it later.
- Font Family: Myriad Pro
- Font Weight: Semibold
- Font Size: 180pt
Open “Character and Paragraph Panels”, and make following changes in “Character” optons.
